Feather Destruction
Primary Causes:

  • Wing clipping.

  • Physical irritation or pain.

  • Inflammation in the underlying skin.

Screaming
Possible Causes:

  • Fear or anxiety.

  • Unfamiliar location.

  • Lack of routine (especially feeding schedule).

  • General irritation.

Biting
Possible Causes:

  • Owner misreading the bird’s body language.

  • The bird is unwell or doesn’t want to be touched.

  • The bird is beginning to moult or has a mild infection.

Vet Visits
Always stay with your bird during vet visits if possible. Separation from their trusted human can cause significant stress—and in extreme cases, this stress may become life-threatening.

Diet Problems
Potential Issues Include:

  • Feeding eggs.

  • Colored pellets.

  • Overfeeding pellets in general.

Beak Problems
Common Causes:

  • Lack of soft wood perches to chew on.

  • Birds need access to natural tree branches or untreated pine/fir lumber (2"x2") to help maintain healthy beak condition.

Purchasing a Young Bird
Always ensure the bird is fully weaned before purchase. Unweaned birds often require specialized care that new owners may not be prepared to provide, leading to serious health issues.
