Breeding Pure Subspecies of Eclectus - Information on Females

BREEDING ECLECTUS. IDENTIFYING FEMALES.

It seems that there is a problem with the identification of pure subspecies vosmaeri females. So, I have prepared a chart showing cross bred female tail feathers and pure vosmaeri tail feathers. Note that the amount of yellow on the vosmaeri tail feather tip is never less than ONE INCH, except on the outermost tail feather where the amount of yellow may be only 3/4 inch. Note that the amount of yellow on the vosmaeri female tail tip may be up to three inches! It is important to breed pure to pure in order to make sure the pure subspecies survives in aviculture. This also provides a reserve population for vosmaeri in Indonesia where they are still under pressure from poaching.
